We commission Michael Boyd Roman to work alongside four youth apprentices to design and install a public artwork that advocates for peace, safety, and healing. The project will also incorporate dismantled firearms through the Episcopal Church’s Guns to Gardens initiative, a national organization that transforms firearms turned into police departments into functional metal for use in artistic and practical applications.

Guns2Gardens is an extension of the traveling exhibition The Nature of Healing. Through this project, we commissioned Michael Boyd Roman to work alongside four youth apprentices to design and install a public artwork that advocates for peace, safety, and healing. The project will also incorporate dismantled firearm parts through the Episcopal Church’s Guns to Gardens initiative. Guns to Gardens is part of a broader movement among faith-based organizations across the country working to intervene in gun violence. RAWTools has helped develop this ministry over several years by destroying firearms and remaking them into garden tools, jewelry, and artwork. Through this project, materials once connected to harm are transformed into a public artwork rooted in reflection, growth, and community healing.
